So, we've heard the (unmastered) soon to be released, self-titled album from Songs, and we have to tell you — fantastic.
The Sydney-based band is a UHH favourite – while their sound gives a definite nod to seminal Dunedin bands such as The Clean: really, they simply play clever, straightforward pop. We like their restrained musicianship and lyrics, and the immediately apparent affection for post punk and space rock from members Steve Uren, Max Doyle, Ela Stiles and Jeff Burch. If you're not familiar, you can hear a little via their myspace page.
Songs embark on a nationwide jaunt next week, their first headline tour, preceding the launch of their album. Be sure to catch them at one of the following dates:
10/09 — Hopetoun, Sydney — with The Laurels and Danimals
11/09 — Troubadour, Brisbane — with Little Scout & Big Strong Brute
25/09 — The Metro, Adelaide — with Scott & Charlenes Wedding & Fair Maiden
26/09 — Springtones, Melbourne — with Vivian Girls (United States), and many more.
