Elizabeth Bay store bloodorange has quietly and carefully become something of an institution in the four years since owner Loren Abood opened the doors.

Now, the store has undergone something of a renaissance – just last week, a month of frenzied construction and refurbishment came to an end. After a short hiatus the store is open for spring. Fresh, new season stock is instore, and a beautiful fitout courtesy of architects Catherine Lassen and Anna Ciliberto has given the store a more adult, pared back look – all mirrored cabinets, a polished concrete floor and custom made American walnut countertop.

Abood's careful buying and classic aesthetic has amassed a passionate following, and introduced many a local label to the clientele. Special pieces by Sydney designers Therese Rawsthorne and Karla Spetic grace the racks, as do dresses and soft, tailored pieces by Melbourne wunderkind Arnsdorf and the strong, geometric shapes of Gary Bigeni's eponymous label.

Bassike's cotton staples hang beside a small but perfectly formed collection of Alexander Wang shoes and bags, the leather belts and shoes of New York label A Detacher – a sleeper hit, with a uniquely Belgian aesthetic courtesy of the designer's heritage. Then, there are pieces from Wang's mainline and diffusion 'T' selection – soft, modal jersey singlets and dresses in gray, black and white.

bloodorange also stocks a large selection of cult French label, A.P.C. – clothes, shoes, sunglasses and their covetable candles. An Atlas piece with more interior shots will arrive next week, till then, pop in and say hello – 35 Elizabeth Bay Road, Elizabeth Bay, NSW
